I think it’s important not to shelter children too much. It’s good to educate them on various topics especially on basic social constructs like gender identity. This is important so that they won’t grow up becoming ignorant and judging people without first understanding it. Of course, children should be educated on such topics in an appropriate way- just telling them the basics is enough, no need to go so in depth about sexual attraction. That’s something for when they’re older and begin to experience it themselves. 

The question of whether children should be shielded from LGBTQ+ topics is complex. While young children may not fully grasp concepts like sexual orientation or gender identity, it’s important to introduce these topics in an age-appropriate, non-coercive way. Cognitive development suggests that children process abstract ideas differently depending on their age, so discussions about LGBTQ+ issues should be framed in a manner that fosters empathy, inclusion, and respect for diversity, without pushing any specific identity onto them.

Rather than forcing children to adopt an LGBTQ+ identity, the focus should be on teaching kindness, acceptance, and respect for all individuals. Encouraging critical thinking and openness allows children to develop their own understanding of these issues, while also ensuring they’re not overwhelmed or exposed to complex topics prematurely.
